Kumho Petrochemical: “Securing both high performance and environmental reliability”

Also obtains Environmental Product Declaration certification, strengthening its position in PF board insulation

Kumho Petrochemical (CEO Baek Jong-hoon) announced that the PF board insulation from Hugreen, its building materials brand, has obtained the ‘Highest Grade of the HB (Healthy Building Material) Mark’ as well as Environmental Product Declaration certification.

The HB Mark obtained by Hugreen’s PF board is one of Korea’s leading eco-friendly building material certification programs. For building materials produced both domestically and abroad, the Korea Air Cleaning Association conducts rigorous and thorough quality certification tests at accredited testing institutions—measuring the emission intensity of formaldehyde and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) in accordance with the group standard certification regulations for eco-friendly building materials—and, based on the test results, awards one of three graded levels: Good, Excellent, or Highest. Hugreen’s PF board has been supplied since September of last year by D&K Chemtech, a joint venture between Kumho P&B Chemicals and Dongsung Chemical, and is produced with differentiated technology that leverages the know-how held by both companies. During the manufacturing process, the emission of various organic compounds in the PF board is strictly controlled to a minimum level, earning it the ‘Highest Grade,’ the most demanding level of the HB Mark. In particular, the detected amount of formaldehyde was around 0.002 mg/㎡·h, significantly lower than the standard value of 0.008 mg/㎡·h. In addition, the product secured Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, an agency under the Ministry of Environment. The Environmental Product Declaration is a program that quantitatively indicates the environmental impact across all stages of a product—from production to use and disposal—and through this certification, Hugreen’s PF board was evaluated as a product with excellent environmental reliability that promotes environmental improvement. The company plans to obtain Low Carbon certification as well in the future.

Heo Kwon-wook, head of Kumho Petrochemical’s Building Materials Business Division, said, “Since beginning production of PF board in September of last year, we have carried out various technology developments for eco-friendliness, which has resulted in the achievement of the ‘Highest Grade of the HB Mark.’” He added, “Going forward, through PF board that secures both high performance and environmental reliability,
we will reestablish ourselves as a leading eco-friendly insulation company.”
